How is EMDR different from more traditional “talk therapy”?

While most psychotherapies focus on changing emotions, thoughts, and behaviors through talking and encouragement from a therapist; EMDR therapy focuses on allowing the brain to engage in the natural healing process. In EMDR therapy, the client is not required to verbally share details of distressing events; instead the therapist will guide them through sets of Bilateral Stimulation (i.e. eye movements, tapping, or use of auditory cues) in order to stimulate memories and allow the brain to reprocess the event.

Who can benefit from EMDR therapy

EMDR therapists are trained to help adults and children of all ages with various challenges, including:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety, phobias, & panic attacks
  • Attachment
  • Depression
  • Dissociation
  • Eating Disorders

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
